Former Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar has been designated as the Speaker of Madhya Pradesh Assembly after the designation of Mohan Yadav as the Chief Minister.
In the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections Tomar won from the Dimani Lok Sabha constituency.

Role of a Speaker in the State Assembly
A Speaker is central to the functioning of any assembly whether its Lok Sabha or State Assembly and has wide ranging powers.

An assembly speaker can suspend MLAs from its proceedings and has a final say whether a bill is money bill or not. Money bills can only be introduced in the lower house and does not need the consent of the upper house.
Usually, the most senior or the most experienced leader is elected as the speaker of the Lok Sabha or the assembly.
Narendra Singh Tomar as Union Agri Minister
During the farmer protests of 2020-2021 against three farm acts introduced by the Modi-led NDA Government, Tomar was the Union Minister for Agriculture. His tenure as the Agri Minister spanned from 30 May 2019 – 7 December 2023 when Tomar resigned from the Lok Sabha.
